Essentials Field Notes- Week 1

What a wonderful first day we had! The sun was shining, our learners were smiling AND young people from around the world were participating in the world’s largest climate strike– it was all incredibly inspiring, as we are working together to create and nourish stewards of the earth. Ones that care for the earth because they love it.

We then hiked to our home in the woods and discovered so much- from larva, to decomposing tree bark to spiky chestnut shells. We thoughtfully sorted them in our nature museum and learned about their special characteristics in our field guides.

Our culinary-inclined learners made mud soups and shared them with their friends, while others created neighboring dens in the woods and played on our “spider web” rope bridges.

We practiced taking turns and giving space, while honoring each other’s unique abilities to play, build, discover and create. And at the end of class, one learner proclaimed, “We’re all going to be best friends!” It was truly awesome to behold.
